How many have a designated mess officer? How many have stored staple food items that can be relocated? Do you have a plan to execute such a large movement of necessary supplies?

This is the basic supply list for one adult for one year:

150 pounds of wheat berries

25 pounds of flour

25 pounds of cornmeal

25 pounds of oatmeal

50 pounds of rice

25 pounds of pasta total

300 pounds of grains

3 pounds of honey

40 pounds of white sugar

3 pounds of brown sugar

1 pound of molasses

3 pounds of corn syrup

3 pounds of jam/jelly

6 pounds of powdered drink mix

1 pound of flavored gelatin

60 pounds toal for sweeteners

30 pounds of dry beans

5 pounds of dry lima beans

10 pounds of soy beans

5 pounds of split peas

5 pounds of lentils

5 pounds of dry soup mix

60 pounds of legumes

60 pounds of dry milk

12 cans of evaporated milk

13 pounds of other types of milk (sweetened condensed/goat etc)

75 pounds of mlk

1 pound of baking soda

1 pound of baking powder

1/2 pound of yeast

5 pounds of salt (for food use not medicinal or storing of meat)

1 gallon of vinegar (for food use not medicinal/cleaning/storing of food)

There is no meat included here because meat has a short shelf life the recommended amount of stored meat is 200 cans per adult of meat/fish (tuna/canned chicken/ham/beef, spam, mackeral, salmon, ham, bacon etc.)

There are no spices/tea or coffee included either, these are personal preferences and not vital to maintaing life

Using estimates for the canned meats, the weight of one years supply of just food (multi vitamins/otc medications/etc) is just over 600 pounds per adult, the volume of space reqiured will be approximately 6 feet by 6 feet depending on storage containers,

These are things that need to be considered now while food stores are being stocked, replenished and available. Foraging will provide some foods but hunting will be limited for many obvious reasons.

If your unit has families that will be in need of care it may be wise to being a program of storing staples. Beans, peas and rice can be boring but it will stave off hunger and malnutrition.

It would be prudent to add multi-vitamins, Vitamin A-C-D single vitamin pills, over the counter medications for vomiting, diarrhea, and pain/fever reducers, antihistamines, and decongestants.

Consider the needs of your group. If any one has any questions or would like lists on how to begin storing staple foods feel free to do so.

I neglected to add the oils and fats,

4 pounds of shortening

2 gallons of oil

2 quarts of mayonaise

1 quart of salad dressing

4 pounds of peanut butter

13 pounds of oil/fats

while it doesn't affect the weight much, adding 45 pounds to the 606 of the previous listed no one can survive long without fat/oil in their diet.

A family of four requires over 1545 pounds of food weight for one year and that doesn't include the 200 pounds of dried fruits that children will need to remain healthy.... just somethings to consider.

People are more focused when they are not worried about the health and well being of their wives and children. An individual who's fed is more focused than one who is constantly aware of their hunger.

Impressed with your measurements,I have enough supplys to feed 4 adults for a year. The trick is moving it in the event of a constitutional emergency.I just have to hope my Kawasaki mule 3010 is up to the job.It is a four passenger all terrain vehical. It can carry 500 lbs on the back and I have added a trailer hitch and have a 10 foot wagon to hitch on the back.Being surrounded by the Daniel Boone forrest is a help.I can and dehydrate massive amounts of food stocks every year and rotate them.I have taken to vacuuming down wheat grain fresh from my fathers compound in South Carolina.Meds are a whole differnt story.Have been stocking up for the fast four or five years.I have decided due to my disabilitys that I will stay behind and stonewall for my people to escape.I am very comfortable with my sks and all the ammo.I have enough firearms to outfit everyone in my family with a decent array of weapons.

I agree that moving large quantities of anything will prove difficult. Another reason to know your environment. What is edible what is useable and what can be used as medicine.
